How to Install Windows 11 from a USB Drive using Rufus

Windows 11, the latest operating system from Microsoft, offers improved performance, enhanced security features, and a more modern user interface. However, for some users, upgrading to Windows 11 may not be feasible or practical due to various reasons. In such cases, installing an alternative operating system like Linux can serve as a temporary solution until you can upgrade or purchase a legitimate copy of Windows 11.

To install Windows 11 from a USB drive using Rufus, follow these steps:

Prerequisites

  • Rufus is installed on your computer and configured to use the NTFS file system.

  • The USB drive you want to use as a boot medium must be at least 4GB in size.

  • Make sure you have the ISO file of Windows 11 (downloaded from Microsoft’s official website or obtained through other legitimate channels).

Installation Process

  • Insert the USB Drive: Insert the USB drive into your computer. Ensure it is identified by Rufus as a bootable device.

  • Launch Rufus: Launch Rufus and select the USB drive you just inserted.

  • Set Boot Options: In the Rufus interface, set the following options:

* Boot Device: Select the USB drive from the list of available devices.

* Boot Order: Set Windows 11 as the first boot device (you can also choose to add other operating systems or use a custom order).

* Advance Options: Make sure “Something else” is selected for the target system, and then enter the administrator password.

  • Create a Bootable Installation Media: Once you have completed the above steps, click on the “Create” button to create a bootable installation media.

  • Boot into Rufus: Insert your Windows 11 ISO file and restart your computer. The USB drive should now be booting as the primary device for your system.

  • Select the Installation Media: In the boot menu that appears, select the Rufus USB drive as the first boot device (or add another operating system if you prefer).

  • Start the Installation: Click “Create” to start the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of Windows 11.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If Rufus encounters any issues during the installation, restart your computer and try again.

  • Make sure the USB drive is not being detected by other devices as a bootable device before attempting to install Windows 11.

  • If you encounter any errors during the installation process, check for updates in the BIOS settings or restart your computer and try again.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully install Windows 11 from an ISO file using Rufus. However, keep in mind that this is a temporary solution until you can upgrade or purchase a legitimate copy of Windows 11.
